Inventário Florestal Nacional - Santa Catarina

The vegetation of the state of Santa Catarina belongs to the Atlantic Forest biome and is formed by different types of vegetation such as: Dense Ombrophylous Forest (FOD), Mixed Ombrophylous Forest (FOM), Deciduous or Seasonal Forest, Savannah Region, Mangrove and Restingas. The Dense Ombrophylous Forest, its area of occurrence are plains and coastal hills of the state territory, in environments that the marine influence marks with intensity, with humidity index of higher elevation and thermal amplitude of lower elevation. These environmental conditions provide a characteristically developed forest, various species and life. It is a vegetative cover of the hygrophilous type, broad-leaved, perennial, dense and heterogeneous. There are species of this vegetation cover: cinnamon, guamirins, red peroba, cedar, palm-oil, palmetto, fig tree, among others. The formation of the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (Mata de Araucárias) is visible in the plateau of Santa Catarina, at altitudes above 500 meters, in a region of more amenable climate, mixed with tropical and temperate flora. It is an accessible, acciculated and homogeneous vegetation. They are species of greater marking of this domain: cinnamon, sapopemba, yerba mate, bracatinga, imbuia and araucaria resistant. The Decidual or Seasonal Forest is typical of the regions that are located near the Uruguay River. It is visible at altitudes above 500 meters. Species that drop their leaves in autumn and winter predominate. In this plant formation are emphasized grápia, angico-rouge, laurel-brown, canafístula and guajuvira. Among the perennial species are the ivory-wood, the cinnamon, the Camboatás, the Tanheiros, among others. The savanna region (Steppe or Campos de Planalto) is a variety of vegetation cover, mainly in the woods and bushes, and trees and savannas are intercalated, which gave rise to the dynamism of the naturally expanded forests, which climatic evolution added. They are very visible in the Serrano Plateau. The most quantitative species are grasses (caterpillar grass, canine grass, forquilh grass, evergreen grass and mission grass) as well as species belonging to the family of cucumbers, legumes, verbenáceas and composts. Mangroves are visible in areas where the river meets the sea, and where the waves are not broken. They are visible on the coast in the north and in the central portion of the state until the municipality of Laguna. Restinga is a group of ecosystems that encompasses plant communities of floristic and physiognomic distinctiveness, located on land where sand predominates, originating from the sea, rivers, lagoons, wind or combined with these factors, from the quaternary, usually with soils of small development. These plant communities form a pioneering vegetative and edaphic complex, largely dependent on the nature of the soil rather than on the climate, being found in natural resorts, cords made of sands, dunes, plains, terraces and associations of associated depressions.
